Steps: Remove any nails or screws from the damaged area. Nail pine 1xguide blocks to the doorjamb around the damaged area. There are about $of materials in this repair , and it can be carried out in 1-hours by anybody with.

Unscrew and remove the old metal storm-door frame from the doorway opening. Carefully remove broken, split pieces of wood from bottom of the side jamb. Pull off any small splinters.

Use the putty knife to apply spackle to each cut out area. Apply it liberally and use the knife to flatten it as best as you can with the putty knife. Allow to dry according to the directions on the spackle – for me it was about hours.

Use a chisel and hammer or putty knife to pry the door stop and molding away from the frame. Start at the bottom of the frame and work your way up. Take care not to damage the stop as you remove it from the frame.

Apply a bead of caulking between the casing and brick and casing and door jamb. To repair a water damaged door jamb : Remove any water damaged wood from the door jamb. Insert a piece of folded wire mesh (hardware cloth) in the opening, and secure it in place with screws.

Mix up two-part wood filler or auto body filler. Restore the missing areas of the door jamb by cutting your own replacement piece or filling the space with an epoxy wood filler. If the cutout area is smaller than inches, we’d recommend purchasing a replacement piece like these FrameSaver Rot Repair Pieces to save time and headaches on cutting your own. Insert the end of a putty knife between the loose casing on the doorknob side, on the interior side of the door. Sand until flush with undamaged area. Then skin over the jamb (completely sill to top) with vinyl. If the other side is ok, just skin over that with vinyl. Remove the trim and cut the nails holding the frame to the studs.

Reset the door so that it is level and plumb. Shim it and nail it and hang the trim. Press the form against the filler and attach it with screws. Then pull it off after the filler hardens.

Or you can wait until the sagging filler reaches the hardness of soap and carve it off with a putty knife or chisel or shape it with a Surform plane or rasp (Photo 2). Most medium to large repairs will require at least two layers of filler.

Screw the hinges onto the correct side of the jamb. Place the door in the jamb and fasten it to the hinges.
