Service cats

Can cats be service animals? No, but cats can qualify as emotional support animals if you have doctor write a letter for an emotional support animal. Service animals may accompany their owners to all public areas and private businesses , but must be well behaved. Right now, only dogs and very occasionally miniature horses can be considered service animals under the ADA.


This doesn’t mean a cat can’t do many service animal type tasks.

In fact, cats are far more trainable than people realize. Service carts are often open , with two or more tub-shaped or lipped platforms to hold items in place. Unfortunately, cats cannot be recognized as service animals. As of today, dogs are the only animals allowed to be considered service animals.


Cats can however still be beneficial companions , and they can be registered as emotional support animals. Can you register a cat as a service animal? What is an emotional service cat?


Under the Americans with Disabilities Act , cats cannot be service animals as such.

According to the American Disability Act (ADA), “ Service Animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. There is a special provision written in for miniature horses, but nothing that mentions specifically service cats.


Dogs and miniature horses can be registered as service animals. Animal ID Card that has your animal’s photo and information as well as legal information about your rights. Therapy cats are assets in many situations. Present this if someone questions the validity of your emotional support animal.


Cats can provide love and emotional support to their owners in the same way dogs can. Let’s explore this topic further. Service animals perform some of the functions and tasks that the individual with a disability cannot perform independently. There is no age limit and there are no special training requirements.
