Should high schools require community service?

What are the requirements for community service? The are many student clubs, such as Amnesty International and Key Club, that are devoted to community service. If nothing that appeals to you exists at your school , start your own club.

High school students who engage in community service projects can benefit from the experience in many ways. They develop a good work ethic, engage in conversation with people of different ages and diverse lifestyles, and learn new skills. However, there are pitfalls. It is wise for parents and teachers to help guide students to community service projects that are safe and supervised.

It can point you to new interests, new friends, and if you’re really lucky, maybe even a lifelong career. And yeah, okay, it’ll also look good on your resume.

Volunteering” is a big word. Most paying jobs that high school students are eligible for – such as working in fast food - are not the most interesting. Travel time to the organization’s site is not included in the log sheet. High School community service hours are to be completed in Sarasota County.

Only the hours of direct service to the organization are to be documented on the log sheet. Students must complete hours of service each year. The community service requirement may be satisfied by participation in a single activity or a combination of activities.
